Alert: Allover Florals

The Allover Florals project was inspired by a few things:

  1. The faux jumpsuit trend
  2. Fabric I found on sale at Blackbird fabrics
  3. Wanting to try out the swishy goodness of the Winslow Culottes by Helen’s Closet (see my other post of the shorts version)

This was my first make using this pattern. I made size 8 **** of the just passed the knee version. I used the pattern, as is, with no other hacks or changes other than slash pockets *****. The waistband was interfaced, but I don’t think I applied it ideally and it sort of twists inside itself. This was one of the first 5 garments I’ve ever made, mind you, and that could be due to my inexperience at the time.

I like how when I wear these culottes, the impression they give is that I’m wearing a skirt. They swish and they are fun. But I don’t think the length is “me”. I don’t do long dresses or maxi skirts or even capri or cropped pants all that often so this length feels like it chops off my legs more than I want. This is however, not last time I made this pattern. I’m actually quite in love with the shorts version.

About a year later, I got around to making the matchy matchy top. I used the Alice Dress / Top pattern by Tessuti. This top is quite a dream to wear. It floats around my body wonderfully! I wear it untucked over jeans or shorts, with my Harlene’s or tucked into my culottes! I’m glad I made separates, as I’m not normally someone to wear a patterns on my clothes, and I didn’t even own any floral fabrics until this Allover Florals project. Two pieces allows me to tone down the busyness or go for the ultimate in flowery summer cheer!

Happy Sewing!
