Ambivert’s Love at First Sight: The Nest Sweatshirt

I’m a bit of an ambivert.

I love sewing garments, and I nearly equally love sewing quilts.

There are a few beautiful quilted jacket patterns (and makes) out there, such as the Parchment Jacket by Closet Core or the Tamarack Jacket by Grainline Studio. Or you can turn a pattern like the Nova Coat by Papercut patterns into your own beautiful quilted coat. (As an aside, I’m going to have to return to this last pattern, as I have some fabric recently given to me by my husband’s grandmother that I think is the perfect match).

But this post isn’t about quilted coats. It’s about a pieced sweatshirt by Sew Liberated: the Nest Sweatshirt.

I originally chose this pattern for the V-neckline. But fell in love with the star quilt block on the front, and just had to make one! I sewed quite intensely over the Christmas break and it came together quicker than I expected. I used a ponte for the main part of the sweatshirt, and found some cotton jersey in my saved scraps for the star. I interfaced the star (with fusible woven interfacing) to help me piece it, but I didn’t bother to interface the ponte. I suppose it’s a bit of an experiment, as I also accidentally cut the main fabric on the cross-grain, lol. And because of that, was able to cut the entire thing out in ONE meter. Otherwise, I had a light gray ponte to colour block the sleeves (which I can now use on another project :D)

In spite of the fact that it doesn’t quite drape as the pattern intends, I am so happy wearing my favourite colour combination. It’s fun, it’s expressive, and it gives that ever so faint impression that I might be wearing a blanket ๐Ÿ˜‰

People who know I sew, can confidently ask, “did you make that?” as it’s clearly not from a store. And I’m happy as then I can shamelessly start talking about sewing ๐Ÿ˜€

My husband thinks it makes me look like I’m wearing a super hero costume, or that I’m a Care Bear. Which is a step up from the uncomfortable look on his face when he sees some of my other makes.

Til next time, happy sewing.
